1. Overview
This page explains the copyright and permissions position for Decolonising Archive. It distinguishes between original platform materials created for this site and third-party materials, records, references, and linked content that remain subject to their own rights, restrictions, and custodianship arrangements.
2. Original platform materials
Unless otherwise stated, the original platform code, interface design, editorial writing, metadata enrichment, taxonomy structures, search architecture, curated record descriptions, source pathway design, and other original materials created for Decolonising Archive are protected and all rights are reserved.
These original platform materials remain the property of Dr Yaw Ofosu-Asare unless expressly stated otherwise in writing.
3. What this includes
Original platform materials may include, without limitation, the written summaries, abstracts, interpretive descriptions, editorial framing, record relationships, collection structures, category systems, taxonomic arrangements, metadata normalisation and enrichment, interface text, search logic, and other authored forms of expression and arrangement created for this site.
4. Third-party materials
References to external archives, repositories, institutions, manuscripts, objects, images, publications, museum records, audiovisual materials, and other third-party resources do not imply transfer of copyright, licence, or custodianship to this platform.
Rights in third-party materials remain with the relevant rights holders, archives, institutions, communities, publishers, or custodians.
5. Linked and cited content
The platform may provide metadata, summaries, citations, links, contextual notes, and source pathways relating to third-party materials. Those features are intended to support discovery, research, and contextual understanding. They do not grant any right to reproduce or commercially exploit the underlying third-party content.
6. Permitted use of original platform content
Unless otherwise stated, you may cite and refer to original platform content for lawful research, teaching, criticism, review, and private study, provided proper attribution is given and the use is otherwise lawful.
7. Prohibited use without permission
You must not reproduce, republish, mirror, bulk-copy, commercially reuse, translate, adapt, redistribute, scrape, extract, or repurpose original platform materials without prior written permission.
You must not use the platform’s original content, metadata structures, taxonomies, or curated datasets for AI or machine learning training, automated extraction, dataset construction, or commercial ingestion without prior written permission.
8. Educational, institutional, and licensing requests
Permission may be requested for educational reproduction, institutional use, republication, licensing, exhibition, translation, or other reuse of original platform materials. Approval, refusal, or conditions of use remain at the discretion of the site owner unless otherwise agreed in writing.
9. No implied transfer of rights
No use of the platform, and no communication, discussion, review, presentation, meeting, or institutional conversation concerning the platform, creates any assignment, transfer, licence, shared ownership, or waiver of intellectual property rights unless expressly agreed in writing.
