1. Overview

Decolonising Archive aims to act responsibly in relation to copyright, provenance, custodianship, community knowledge, and the accurate description of archival and cultural materials.

If you are a rights holder, archive, institution, community representative, custodian, authorised agent, or other affected party and believe that material referenced, described, linked, or presented on this platform should be reviewed, corrected, restricted, or removed, you may contact us through the process below.

2. Types of requests we will review

We will review requests relating to copyright concerns, provenance concerns, misidentification, inaccurate metadata, unauthorised representation, culturally sensitive material, community harm, inappropriate contextualisation, privacy concerns, or other good-faith rights and integrity issues connected to content on the platform.

3. What to include in your request

To help us assess your request, please include:

your name and contact details, the page URL or record reference, the material in question, the basis of your request, the outcome you are seeking, and any supporting information you can reasonably provide.

4. Authority and representation

If you are acting on behalf of a rights holder, institution, archive, or community, please explain your authority to make the request. Where appropriate, we may ask for further information before taking action.

5. Review process

Requests will be reviewed in good faith and as promptly as reasonably possible. Depending on the issue raised, the platform may temporarily remove, restrict, annotate, correct, or otherwise adjust the relevant material while a matter is being assessed.

6. Possible outcomes

Following review, we may maintain the material as published, correct metadata, add contextual notes, restrict access, remove a link, remove content, or take other reasonable steps in response to the issue raised.

7. Third-party source limitations

Decolonising Archive may link to or describe material held by external archives, institutions, libraries, museums, or repositories. Where a request concerns underlying third-party content, rights, or access conditions controlled by another institution, we may direct you to the relevant source institution where appropriate.

8. Good-faith submissions

This process is intended for good-faith requests. Knowingly false, misleading, abusive, or bad-faith takedown demands may be rejected.

9. No waiver of rights

The availability of this process does not constitute an admission of liability, infringement, wrongdoing, shared ownership, or waiver of any rights by the platform owner.
